VESTIQUE PROJECT
PARENTS WEEKEND POSTER & POST
THE PROMPT
The manager of Vestique, Haley Davis, asked me to create a poster and social media post for one of their biggest sales weekends of the year—USC Parents Weekend.
She requested something simple, USC-themed, inviting yet creative, and reflective of the charm and character of a southern boutique. Haley gave me plenty of creative freedom, initially sharing a bow-inspired idea as her reference photo. While I considered that concept, I felt it didn’t fully capture the USC pride that students would want to showcase to their parents. So, I developed an entirely new vision—one that Haley immediately loved.
BRAINSTORMING
Sometimes the brainstorming process comes together quickly, but this project took some trial and error. Below is the original inspiration photo Haley shared with me. I spent hours trying to make that concept work, but I wasn’t proud of the results.
While I always aim to reflect the customer’s vision, when I’m given full creative freedom, I’m willing to step outside both my own and the client’s comfort zones. In this case, that approach led to the best possible outcome.
Although I drew inspiration from platforms like Pinterest and Canva, the graphics themselves were sourced through Google searches and completely redesigned in Adobe Illustrator. From there, I carefully selected typography that would present the information clearly while balancing spacing, kerning, and leading. For posters and social media posts, these elements are often the most critical for creating a cohesive and visually engaging design.
