BERRY PROJECT

VIDEO EDITING & CREATION

THE PROMPT

Ms. Mary Berry is a fourth-grade teacher at Caughman Road Elementary School. Since she’s my mother and knows my skills, she often asks me to create a fun video for her class at the end of the year.

This year, she filmed all the faculty members participating in the “Finish the Lyric” trend that went viral on TikTok. She brought me nearly 80 short clips—about 18 minutes of footage in total—and asked me to combine them into one cohesive video. My task was to trim unnecessary parts, adjust lighting and sound for a better viewing experience, and make the final video easily accessible so her fellow teachers and students could enjoy it for years to come.

BRAINSTORMING

The brainstorming process for videos is very different from product design. Once I receive the prompt, I immediately request all the video files so I can begin editing them individually in Adobe Premiere. In Premiere, I review each clip one by one—adjusting sound and lighting—then trim out any unnecessary parts.

After editing each clip, I assemble them into one cohesive project, often rearranging the order for better pacing, flow, and visual appeal. I then create a simple introduction with light background music to give the video a polished, put-together feel.

To ensure accessibility, I uploaded the final video to YouTube using her account so that everyone could watch it at their convenience. This project took about a week to complete and is something I create almost every year for my mom and her team.
